Q: Shower knob for water flow is just clicking and no water coming through. Have stripped back casing and a black tooth appears broken off although all teeth appear ok on cartridge. Is this a replacement cartridge? As handle is also broken and lead starting to split is it better just to replace with a new Excel?

A: Thereshould be a red key that fits in to two holes at the back of thecartridge high and low stamped into the back of the cartridge using thekey you turn the back of the cartridge to high or low. High for combi boilers and pumps over 2 bar Low for gravity systems and pumps under 2 bar
But if this does not work it is a new cartridge I `m afraid as these are non serviceable. Answered 15 days ago | Barrie

Q: Recently fitted a new Alpha InTec 30 combi boiler. When turning the temp adjustment ring up to high the water does heat up as it should, though the pressure remains high. Might there be a problem with the internal thermostat function, or does the pressure need to be adjusted? Also the valve is slightly stiff when turning on and off.
Thanks.

A: Yes the valve could be stiff due to the age and extrapressure. However if you remove the cartridge you will find that theretwo holes that the red key will fit into (see the link below) if you don’t have the red key a pair of long nosedpliers will do. On the back of the cartridge stamped in to the rear arearrows pointing to high and low push the key or pliers into the holes and turnto the high setting. http://www.showerdoc.com/shower-spares/mira/MIRA-903-33-Mira-Excel-Shower-Cartridge-903-33-Spare-Part When it is out make sure that the cartridge filters areclear. This should solve the problem however if not then it is justthe age of the cartridge and the extra pressure that is causing the problemtherefore it will have to be replaced. The Mira Advance does not use a pump, the water pressure comesfrom the mains If the incoming water temperature is 10° and you want to showerat 40° then you will have a temperature rise of 30° with a 9kw shower youshould expect a flow rate of about 4lts per min Answered 107 days ago | The doc

A: Check that the inside of the hose hasn’t collapsed, and thehead is clear, this could be blocking the supply Have you fitted the cartridge the correct way round?(normally hot to the left and cold to the right as you look at it ) The other thought is to remove the cartridge and flush thepipe work out see below This will take two! If your valve is recessed pack an old poly bag round thevalve to divert the water into your Bath / shower tray then turn the hot andcold valves on one at a time and allow the water to flush through for about15>20 seconds. The person who is helping you should watch that the wateris not going anywhere that is going to do any damage also they should watchthat the amount of water coming from the hot and cold they should be roughlythe same. If you do these checks and you still have a problem then wecan replace the cartridge .......Having said that this is a very unusual fault. Answered 132 days ago | The doc

Q: Shower was producing poor pressurre so having checked inlet supply OK - I bought a new 903.33cartridge.
When fitted I found I could not get hot water but cold only pressure good. To test - I reversed the cartridge and found I was getting good pressurre hot but no cold (which I should expect - just wanted to be sure that both hot and cold supply at good pressure was getting through. Shower fitted in 200/2001. I was running with normal low pressurre - prior to the problems but amn told that our pressure is quite high - should I try high pressurre setting on cartridge??
Failing this - any suggestions??

A: Regarding the temperaturefluctuation or cool running it could be a faulty cartridge however to checkthis, see if you can get hold of the hot supply pipe before it enters theshower or perhaps as it leaves the boiler. If when holding this pipethe temperature fluctuates or goes cool then the problem is not with the showerbut more likely with the boiler as the shower can only deliver what the boilersends to it. # Disregard the temperature atthe taps as they have a different flow rate. A: If you click on the link below it will take you to an exploded view of the Excel. The temp control simply pulls off and the remaining shrouds and knobs are clipped on and to remove release the clips. Once all these are off take out the 4 screws that secure the cartridge then it will just pull out. A: Hi The squealing noise is caused by a worn cartridge or by imbalanced pressures for example the pressure in the cold supply is much higher than the hot. If you have problems with an Excel then it's best just to replace the cartridge, however it is probably worth stripping the cartridge out and checking that the inlet filters are clean, before buying a new cartridge. To replace the cartridge or check the filters Turn off hot and cold water supply Pull front temperature knob off The rest of the knob assy. just unclips Remove 4 screws that hold cartridge into body Pull old cartridge forward shouldn't be too tight you should now be able to see the filters. If you are replacing the cartridge, set new cartridge for High/Low pressure (instructions with cartridge) Slip new cartridge into place remember to check that the new seals are all in place (and don't drop out as you push back) Tighten screws be careful not to over tighten Refit knobs. Q: After a shower, I turn off the both controls to zero

The only way that I can stop/reduce the flow is to bang/thump the shower body with my hand. It doesn't always work, but it is the best I can do.
What is your best solution to my problem??

Q: I have replaced the cartridge on my mixer shower because the old one (410.12) was dripping. The flow rate on the new one (903.33) is acceptably low and varies from just OK when you start a shower and then gradually gets less. I have two Excel Mira showers - both are gravity fed directly from the hot and cold water cylinder/tank respectively.
I have checked the pressure setting on the cartridges and this is as it was on the old one (low pressure). I have also checked the filters and they are aslo clear.
Any ideas what is going on?

Q: In 1993 I fitted a Mira Excel TB Thermostatic Mixer Shower ~ and the box tells me it has a low pressure cartridge. Turning the control is stiff and it seems it is time to replace the cartridge.
1. Is the Mira Cartridge 903.33 at £97-02 the correct replacement cartridge ? (The part no is not the same as mentioned in my 1993 installation booklet that came with the shower).
2. Your website shows a Red Key to go with this cartridge. What is this for? When I fitted this shower in 1993 there was no key.
3. The present shower installation is gravity fed from a hot water cylnder and cold water tank in the loft. If I change my boiler to a more modern boiler ~ Combi etc ~ sometime in the distant future, will this shower with the new cartridge be compatible. I realise this will require different pipework.

William

Q: Hi, we've had the Excel fed from a combi-boiler for about 7 years. Recently we are finding it hard to get any hot water out of it, it's just about warm. We've been told by a heating engineer that the fault lies with the boiler and want's to fit a pressure reducing valve. This is a new problem, it has been fine for years, after reading this site I get the impression that it may be the cartridge, we live in a very hard water area. What do you suggest the best thing to do is?

Q: Hi I recently fitted one of your replacement Mira Excel B pre-2003 compatable cartridge to replace the faulty old high pressure one. I now find that the temperature adjustment is very sensitive, changing from cold to hot with very little movement of the knob. A: This is unlikely to be caused by the temperature range adjustment being wrong but is more likely to be a supply problem. If your shower is fed from a combi boiler or an unvented hot water cylinder then it is possible that the cold water supply pressure is too high for the hot and a pressure reducing valve in the cold supply to the shower is required. It is actually more likely that the shower is reverse plumbed and hot and cold supplies are swapped. Industry standard is hot to left and cold to right. If your unit is reverse plumbed it is easily corrected, just remove cartridge turn through 180degrees and refit. Fit the knobs right way up and thats it. Temp range adjustment is simply done by removing temp knob and turning hub until required mid range temp is achieved removing hub without turning spindle and refit in vertical position, may take several attempts to achieve desiresd temperature.
