Q: Recently installed a combi, converted from vented system
Showers have superb power but no control over thermostat, two showers in house, both the same, hot and cold right way round and work fine on gravity
Obviously I think cartridge need replacing to suit pressurised system,
How do identify the cartridge in now is for gravity only?

A: Youwill have to find out which cartridge you have. Pinkfor a combi or multipoint and grey any system with balanced (equal)pressures. Removethe on/off knob should just pull forward however it can be a bit of a bu**erthen remove the 4 screws that hold the temperature knob in place, remove thetemperature knob and then you will see the colour of your cartridge. If youalready have the cartridge and want to carry on and replace it you will have toturn the water off to the shower. Thenremove the cartridge you will need to remove the 4 large screws at the side ofthe cartridge these have posidrive or ‘Torx’ T25 heads depending on thereage. Pullthe cartridge forward to remove. Q: I have a Green Cartridge, my shower is dripping through the head and also a small amount through the knob. The system is gravity feed, ie with a cold water header tank in the loft. The cartridge is green and also looks slightly different from those in the pictures. I have not pulled the cartridge out yet. I believe the green is for high pressure, but I don't believe that I have a high pressure system. I attach so pictures, but appreciate if you can advise which is the correct cartridge for my shower and confirm that with the replacement kit you get the O ring as well.

Q: The detailed description of the process is very clear and helpful, but when I opened my Gainsborough Diplomat (only to check the colour code before ordering) I realised it's not a job for my poor DIY skills.
If I buy a new cartridge from this site - where should I seek a plumber / shower technician who can competently install it for me?
(I don't mind if he also supplies the cartridge if he buys it on trade terms and makes a little profit - the important thing I need is the fixing service. I'm based in Berkshire / Thames Valley).

Q: When I turn the shower on then water appears to come through the cartridge, as well as the shower head. When the shower is turned off then there are no leaks or drips.
When I took the shower to bits to get to the cartridge then there was lots of small parts of hard rubber in the casing etc.
Is it time time for a new cartridge?

Q: I have a Gainsborough Ambassador mixer that has been working fine for a number of years. Last night it broke and would no longer turn off (I had to turn off the water) even though the handle turns. I assume I need a replacement cartridge but not sure which one. The one I took out was grey but two years ago I fitted a 2 bar pump (for both Hot and Cold) and didn't change the cartridge so was wondering if I need the high pressure one instead?
Also in your below answer I you mention an O ring does this come with the cartridge?

Q: Hi, I bought a new build house which had an Aqualisa thermostatic shower fitted.
The first cartridge failed after approx 1.5yrs - we endured it for another 6-12months, as I hadn't realised this was what had been causing the lack of control or stability to the water temp until a plumber pointed it out.
The cartridge was found to be badly corroded at one end of the temp sensitive helix where it it is held in place (the metal clamp holding the helix end appeared to be the rusting culprit) - so it had been moving freely sometimes and jamming partially in place at others explaining the erratic water temp.
I replaced it with another grey aqualisa cartridge.
1.5 - 2yrs later the second cartridge is showing the same symptoms.
Question: why would the cartridges fail so quickly & why are they corroding? Surely they should be manufactured to not rust apart after so short a time?

A: My first thought is if you have a combi boiler then you have the wrong cartridge! In my experience the rust forms at the end of the bimetallic coil however also in my experience there has never been enough rust to impair the operation of the cartridge. Q: We have a shower which was installed 9 years ago when the house was built, it is a white mixer shower with the words Aqualisa on the front. We have hard water. Over the last couple of years it has become increasingly more difficult to mix the hot and cold to a decent temp - ie it goes from too hot to too cold. I have tried replacing the hose and shower head. I have dismantled the unit until i can see the front of the cartridge which looks like the 022801. If i replace this is this likely to enable the water to mix easily, like when it was first installed. Many thanks.

Q: I have an Aqualisa shower which has been dripping from the shower head. I also have another one which is ok so I swapped the two grey thermostatic cartridges around. The original leaking one istill dripping but not quite as bad and the other one is ok??? I can't find any washers to replace only the large gasket at the front and a small cone filter at the back, Can anyone explain if there is a washer somewhere that i simply can't see or better still show me a drawing or photo as I don't want to buy another cartridge if it won't cure my problem.

Installed this myself a few years ago in a new bathroom with shower over the bath. The cold supply is pumped at 3 bar from the cold water tank through a large bore plastic pipe. This divides when it gets to the bathroom. One branch for the cold goes to the shower unit and the other to a Britony balanced flue instantaneous gas water heater. So pressure at the shower is equal, but not taking account of the resistance of the water going through the boiler. However the max water temperature has never been HOT and now it is distinctly cool. I have taken the cartridge out, cleaned everything and put it back. No difference. Does it need to be replaced? (it is a grey one) and this time how can I get the water a bit hotter please? Should I have used the "pink/orange" one? Or something else?

However the screws (stainless steel look rather than brass) attaching the cartridge in place are looking pitted \ slightly rusted and the slots on at least one of the screws has distorted. Q: I have Gainsborough Ambassador Concealed shower mixer in my loft conversion and a pump in the lower bathroom the feeds this.It has been working fine for about 18months but now i am having a problem in that when i turn it on, the cold supply is working ok and pump works properly but when i move the thermostatic controler to the hot it slows down the pump and then screeches and cuts out. Is there any reason for this.I have taken out the cartridge and cleaned the little conical filter and refitted it but still no joy except a little leak from the controler.Can you suggest any answers,thanks for your time. I have one of these cartridges to replace a leaking item. It has been replaced a number of times in the past. It is an early body with brass screws / bolts. The instructions tell me to reuse the brass items but they are now rounded off. I understand they are M5's but what length so I can get replacements? Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

A: If it is a condensing combi then you should have fitted the Pinkcartridge. However I presume that it is dripping from the showerhead if itis then it shouldn’t matter which cartridge you have. Q: I believe our shower is a Gainsborough with the grey cartridge installed. We bought this house with the shower installed in a converted loft/dormer en-suite, and it has performed fine for 18 months. All of a sudden it appears to have no water pressure and just dribbles out of the shower head. Just prior to this it would run cold, then hot, then cold then hot., it wouldn't balance the flow at all. HELP me please, I don't know if it has a pump or not, it is fed from our Combi boiler.

A: First if you are on a combi you need a Pink cartridge, however that shouldn’t cause the problem with flow. Check that the hose and head is clear also check that the hose hasn’t collapsed internally Regarding the temperature fluctuation or cool running it could be a faulty cartridge however to check this, see if you can get hold of the hot supply pipe before it enters the shower or perhaps as it leaves the boiler. If when holding this pipe the temperature fluctuates or goes cool then the problem is not with the shower but more likely with the boiler as the shower can only deliver what the boiler sends to it. Disregard the temperature at the taps as they have a different flow rate. Answered 740 days ago | The doc |

Q: We have recenlty had our Electramate 2000 heating system repaired and now we have piping hot water from all our taps and heating but the shower still does not seem to regulate the temperature and is very often cold or luke warm. Even when turning the regulator higher the temperature gets colder not hotter. Could this be to do with the thermostatic control?

A: Yes these will fit see below this may help. You will have to find out which cartridge you have. Pink for a combi or multipoint and grey any system with balanced (equal) pressures. Remove the on/off knob should just pull forward however it can be a bit of a bu**er then remove the 4 screws that hold the temperature knob in place, remove the temperature knob and then you will see the colour of your cartridge. If you already have the cartridge and want to carry on and replace it you will have to turn the water off to the shower. Then remove the cartridge you will need to remove the 4 large screws at the side of the cartridge these have posidrive or ‘Torx’ T25 heads depending on there age. Pull the cartridge forward to remove. Before fitting the new cartridge you should replace the small ‘O’ ring at the rear of the body this is another bu**er to change……(something like a crochet hook or the sort of thing that dentists use will help) It is not always necessary to replace this ring however if there any problems with the cartridge, the first question you will be asked is did you replace the ‘O’ ring? if the answer is no! then you will be told to phone back once it has been replaced. When you refit the cartridge make sure that the slot, (usually on the right of the body ) the gasket and the body all line up properly then retighten the screws. On the older versions you have to reuse the original brass screws if you have this type be careful not to over tighten the screws because the brass inserts in the body may split, on a few occasions you may find they have split when you remove the old cartridge if this happens then you will probably have to replace the body. Refit the temperature control knob (new screws supplied) the fit the on / off knob, turn the water back on and check for leaks, if everything is OK remove clothes and have a shower!!! Q: Can i purchase the O rings that are shown on this kit set as the thermostatic cartridge works it just leaks past the unit.
I can not seem to get it the stop running wthout switching of the supplies

Q: My 5 year old aqualisa drips when shut off. Is it necessary to replace the whole thermostatic cartridge or can a gasket or washer be replaced. I have dismantled and examined the internals and can't see any dirt or damage.
