Q: Hi
I bought a new cartridge off you recently and it worked fine for a couple of months. However, its now a few months old and it seems to not reach the high temperatures as well as it was. I have re-installed and selected the highest temperature possible but it makes no difference. It is able to provide cold water, just not as hot as it should.
Any suggestions? I have considered that it might be that the thermostat has a build up of limescale affecting it, and wondered if it would be worth using a mild kettle descaler on it. However, I was worried this might ruin it. Any thoughts?
Thanks

A: If you have a limescale area then, The first things to check are:
1 That the main valve coming into your house is fully open.
2 Then check that the valve on the line to the shower is fully open.
If these valves are not fully open then there may not be enough water getting to your shower.
If there is enough flow then it could well be the thermostat and you idea may well help. Answered 14 days ago | Barrie

Q: Hi, I have a 12 year + Bristan Osbourne 1901 which started leaking through the rose when switched off - this happened without much warning - almost overnight. I dismantled taking off a white plastic retaining plate with 2 allen screws and pulled out the cartridge. The seals looked ok so i thought I'd clean the cartridge and reassemble. I turned the stop cock on again and thought I'd cracked it - no leak. But after I turned it on and off once I had no flow at all. I took it to bits again, reassembled & the same again. Turns on ok then off, turn it again and no flow! Can you advise - do I need a new cartridge or have I assembled it wrong?

A: Obviously without seeing the cartridge I can’t tell if ithas been assembled correctly or not. If the seals are OK, then after 12years it probably needs anew cartridge in any case. Answered 64 days ago | The Doc

Q: My Pisa shower is now 12 years old and the temperature control never produces cold water when selected.
I have taken the cartridge out and on initial inspection it appears tarnished but in working order.
Is the cause of the problem likely to be a faulty CD valve? If so can I replace just this part or do I need to get a whole cartridge?
Also will these parts fit a Pisa shower of this age?

A: You have done well to get 12 years out of a cart 5. If you are in a lime scale area you could try giving it asoak in scale remover if not then I think you are going to need a newcartridge. Answered 71 days ago | The Doc

Q: Bought a set of seals for cartridge, refitted cartridge, but still leaks. Do you think it could be cartridge itself, or I need to replace the complete shower valve?

A: If it is leaking from the shower head then you need a newcartridge, if itm is leaking from the valve body then it may be that you havegot the seals twisted as you pushed the cartridge home. Answered 72 days ago | The Doc

Q: Hi, I have a 10 year old Bristan shower, recessed into the wall. I cannot recall the model, but I think its an omega or prism.
The head has recently been leaking and I decided to remove the catridge to see the state of it. In extracting the cartridge I unscrewed it (your comment "Do not try to unscrew the cartridge " and in doing so have sheared the end of the cartridge. Do you think this is just a replacement cartridge or will it have damaged the internal body of the shower unit?
many thanks

A: If you have snapped the end pin off the cartridge. http://www.showerdoc.com/brist-06732compl-bristan-thermostatic-cartridge-(cart-5)-06732complPart at the right hand end of the photo then that is still stuck in the valve body andthe new cartridge will not fit until it has been removed. The problem is that that part just pulls out and usuallywhen it is snapped off there is nothing to get a hold off to pull it out. If you find some way of getting it out let me know and I’llpublish it so everyone else can try it. Answered 114 days ago | The doc

Q: Hi,
I purchased and fitted a new thermo cartridge to my Bristan Pisa shower and all was well for 6 weeks.
At the weekend the water was ice cold again and the hot water feed elbow was cold. I removed and replaced the cartidge and all seemed to be well again - hot shower and feed arm was very hot - until today! shower is ice cold again as is feed arm.
Can you diagnose my problem? The cartridge is brand new and all seals are well greased so all looks fine from that point of view.
The rest of the shower is approx 10 years old however I am afraid that if I replace the entire shower I will still have the same issues.

A: HiAndy Ifthe elbow going into the shower is cold then that would suggest a fault withthe boiler, the shower can only deliver what the boiler sends to it. Iunderstand that the other taps may be OK however they will have a differentflow rate compared to the shower, perhaps it would be worthwhile gettingsomeone to look at the boiler. Ifyou get hot water at the shower inlet and the shower is not working properly thenyou could have a faulty cartridge. Answered 119 days ago | The Doc

Q: Hi,
I have recently been experiencing a problem with my Bristan 1901 thermostatic shower. I am finding that the operating handle opens too easily / loosely and no hot water comes through despite the hot feed elbow being extremely warm. This seems to occur mainly when I try having a shower straight after someone else but can occur randomly as well. The problem seems to rectify itself after a period of time but this can range from 1 hour - 24 hours.
I have had the shower about 8-9 years and I replaced the cartridge about 3-4 years ago.
Do you think i need another new cartridge or is there another problem that you could diagnose.
Many thanks for your help

Alan

A: Yes there is not much info on the Meridian. If you let us know what the problem is, send us a photo ofthe valve with the knobs and cover plate on then a photo of the valve with theknobs and cover plate removed, we should be able to ID the valve and advise onwhat parts you need It may be easier to send the photos to my email address. gt(at)showerdoc.co.uk Answered 127 days ago | The doc

A: With the shower in the off position remove the controls. You will see a shoulder on the steel retaining plate and a corresponding shoulder on the brass control , there should be a gap of 1 to 3mm between them if not try adjusting the retaining plate , if this is not possible remove the cartridge and rotate slightly and refit to allow the gap to be attained. A: Would suspect that the cartridge is not closing completely. Turn to fully closed and remove controls. You will see a shoulder on the retaining plate and a corresponding shoulder on the cartridge , in the fully closed position there should be a\ gap 0f 1 to 3mm between them , if there is not and the retaining plate cannot be adjusted to achieve this then the cartridge has to be removed and rotated a few degrees and reinstalled. A: If everything else is ok it probably only needs adjustment. Turn the temperature control to ma ,remove control turn clockwise by 90degrees replace and turn to maimum again and check temp , repeat this if necessary until required ma temp is reached and replace control in maimum position. Q: Our Trinity shower was on a pumped circuit - was always too hot for my liking, even when on cold. Now that we've installed an unvented (megaflow type) system and got rid of the pump, the hot taps give out cold water - unless another hot tap is turned on in which case one of the two will get hot!
I'm thinking this is an issue with the cartridge. Will the 06732COMPL cartridge fix this (ie will it stop backflow/cold water pushing into the hot pipe)?

A: This is a bit difficult to understand what is happening without being there to see the fault, however..... The cartridge is only designed to deal with roughly equal pressures you may have a situation where the cold is directly off the mains and the hot pressure is reduced as it goes through the megaflow this would mean you may have to fit a pressure reducing valve to the mains. It may be possible to fit a non return valve into the hot supply however the very first thing I would do is strip the cartridge out and make sure that the filters are clean. Q: Hi, Have a Bristan shower that's started dripping from the shower head (slow drip) and every now and then from the main body - quite a fast dribble if there is backpressure in the system, turn the shower on off and it stops. Hot/cold temp mix works fine when using shower.
Questions are, haven't got a clue what model it is. Chrome, round thermostatic controlled, with a water on off dial behind a temp dial at the front. I've taken both dials off to uncover the brass splined cartridge underneath. From the web it looks like a CART5 as it has the silver retaining plate at the front. Is the CART5 the only one with this plate?
Do you think the whole cartridge is the problem here, or could i just take the old one out and clean it (high pressure air etc?) Is there a service kit for this cartridge, seals etc - is it worth attempting that first?
Cheers

A: Yes the cart 5 is the only one with the stainless slotted retaining ring. Cleaning this cartridge really doesn’t help because it is a sealed unit. Some times the seals are damaged and therefore replacing them can solve the problem, however if you want to be sure of a first time fix then I would replace the complete cartridge because it comes complete with seals.
