Control knob slipping
Could be one of two problems
The teeth on the cog at the rear of the front cover are worn.

Or the water control valve has started to tighten up internally and causing the teeth on the cog to jump.

1. On the back of the knob there should be a little washer insert to prevent the chamfered hole opening up under pressure of changing positions. It sits in where the quick release clips are situated, the clips used for removing the knob.
2. The selector valve is beginning to seize up and is too stiff to rotate. It can be changed easily enough but looks a bit daunting as there are 9 or 10 connections on it and a little pipe.
Good luck and stay safe!
