I thought the original should have lasted longer, however ... the delivery and new product was excellent.

Normally this item breaks due to the button on the slider not being pressed in fully before sliding it up and down the rail. This stresses the plastic and causes it to break.
Make sure the button is fully pressed in before moving the slider, you can also make sure that the rail is clean from soap resdue to make it easier to slide up and down the rail.
