A: Your ticket would suggest that the fault is with the showervalve, unfortunately you don’t mention which type of shower you have. However if it is dripping from the head then that suggeststhat you need a new seal kit or a new cartridge. Answered 135 days ago | The doc

Q: Hello, trying to find a leak which results in the supply circuit RCD tripping.
1. Do the very thin thrust washers on the impeller shaft serve any sealing purposes ? The outer one on my pump appears to be of larger diameter than the diameter of the flat portion of the impeller. Does your replacement Impeller kit (937.38) include new thrust washers ?
I'll investigate further, but I suspect the motor shaft seals may have hardened and started to leak - that means a new pump, right ?
2. The spare parts diagram of the pump parts shows the pressure regulating valve in a position which differs from what it says in the manual - fig 15 - where the pressure regulator seal is shown on the low pressure (supply) side of the impeller for the PPT3 motor. Is this important ?
Appreciate any comment you may have,
Many thanks, Dave

Basicallyif the pump is leaking from one of the shaft seals then it is not repairable soit is time to consider a new pump Answered 142 days ago | The Doc

Q: This pump is at least 11 years old was in the house when we bought it. Was great for at least 6-7 years but has gradually got less and less power and now you have to turn it to cold to get it to run, then back to the temp you want and then only last about 5 mins before cutting out and then 'surging' on and off. Have checked the filters and cleaned, still the same. Just worn out or something else?
Thanks for any help

Q: Hi our PPT3 has developed a fault, it is fine when using cold water but when you add hot the water pressure reduces, reducing the water flow. We have checked the impellers and filters they seem fine. We have noticed that we only have one float pack on the cold side and none on the hot. The interior components look clean and not melted. (eg the capacitor) but we're not electrical experts. Any ideas. Thanks.

A: Would be tempted to feel that this is not a pump problem from the checks you have done. It may well be the shower it is serving is at fault and not allowing enough whot water through to activate the pump. Answered 237 days ago | Alastair

Q: I have a 14 year old PPT3 that works perfectly except that, first shower in the morning, there is a delay of about 5 seconds between turning the shower control and the pump starting up. After that it's OK, although the delay was about 1 minute when we returned from a 2 week holiday. Could this be a sticky valve? Any solution? Thank you!

Q: Pump runs constantly when powered, no visible leaks from the pump/shower. The mix can also be "dodgy", i.e. cold is def lower than hot, sometimes have to turn the mixer valve back to get the cold pumping. Is this something a novice can repair or time to get a new pump?

A: You may have a problem with one of the impellors sticking. However the first things to check is that the inlet filters on the pump and on the shower valve are clean and clear. Once you have checked the filters if there is still a problem get back to me. Answered 337 days ago | The Doc

Q: Hi, my mira ppt3 pump is leaking from the centre screw on the end plate at the cold water end! This does not leak when the shower is running, it only leaks when the cold water is running from anywhere else in the house e.g run the bath tap, or even washing machine in the kitchen. The screw does have an o'ring behind it, but im not sure if replacing the seals will rectify this fault, and also the pump does click once when a cold tap is run! Any suggestions? P.S If you look at your exploded diagram of the pump and look at item 11 then that is where the leak is, the screw even loosened itself!!!

Q: Hi there,
I have had my Mira ppt3 pump working for over 7 years and has been used nearly every day until yesterday when it suddenly packed up, the fuse on the wall had blown so I replaced the 3amp fuse then turned the shower back on, a humming sound occurred followed by a short spark / flash from the relay switch and the fuse had blown again, this occurred each time I replaced the fuse, I repeated this about 4 times to see if it would happen again, unfortunately on the last attempt a short flash from the relay followed by a humming noise then smoke appearing from the wiring section, then nothing again, fuse blown once more with the motor feeling extremely hot.
Has my pump completely had it? Or is it just the relay or the wire pack that has blown? Or maybe both plus the motor also? Can it be fixed, is it economically worth it?
If you could please let me know as soon as possible what your recommendation would be,
Many thanks,
Dave

A: If it is the PPT3 I presume the pump isn’t running? In order of the most likely faults with this pump, it could be A faulty capacitor A faulty relay A fault with the flow switches If it is an Event xs and you can hear the pump running then it is likely to be the solenoid valve Answered 417 days ago | The doc

A: Check that the inlet filter on the cold side of the pump is clear also check the inlet filter on the cold side of the shower. If these are OK then you may have a faulty flow switch sensor, you can check this by swapping the hot and cold sensors. Answered 520 days ago | The doc

Q: My Mira ppt3 twin shower pump has developed a leak on the cold water side. The leak trickles out between the 'legs' of the pump, but right close to the cold water end. Is this and end seal or something more serious ? If more serious, what pump would you recommend for a 2 shower system, with a cold water tank approx 2m above the shower head and the HW tank and shower tray both adjacent to the pump location? A: The most likely fault is a faulty capacitor the white thing inside the control box, there is usually some signs of overheating melting on it if it is faulty. The other thing may be a fault with the relay/relay pack not allowing power to the motor when the pump should be switched on. If the pump is stalled (Humming) then one of the impellors has disintegrated and jammed the pump or the pump has seized in which case it will need replaced. Answered 563 days ago | The Doc

Q: Hi
I have a PPT3 pump that constantly runs even with no taps turned on, I have bled all of the air out of the system, problem still exists.
I have removed the pump from the water supply and turned it on, it does not operate until I lift the magnetic sensor on either the cold or hot side, at which time the motor operates and then stops when I drop the float back down.
Any suggestions as to what the problem may be? Is it possible that it is the pressure relief valve?
|
|
|
Submitted 689 days ago | by
markmorris
A: My thoughts would be that when the pump is in place that the torpedo is lifting and activating the sensor, so that makes me think that there must be water passing through the pump to lift the torp. Check that you have nothing dripping or passing water. The other thing you can try is removing the sensor from each end that way you should be able to work out which end is causing the problem. Q: We have a Mira PPT 3 shower pump. When we got home yesterday there were drips of water coming through the ceiling below it, and it has continued to leak since. I would be very grateful if you could advise me on the following two points:
1) Is it possible to switch off the water going into it without affecting the rest of the water supply? There appear to be four "taps" on pipes going in and out of it. Which would I need to turn off?
2) Do you have any idea what is causing it to leak? Do you think it is repairable with replacement spare parts?
Many thanks for your help.

A: Yes you can turn off the water by shutting off all 4 valves and this will purely isolate the pump and shower. With regard to repairing the leak if you click on the link below you will find an exploded view of the pump and once you have located the leak you should be able to identify parts required. http://www.showerdoc.com/shower-spares/mira/MIRA-PARENT-126-Mira-PPT3 Answered 693 days ago | Alastair
