Q: We have the shower set to the lowest temperature (blue circle on the left hand side) but are finding that the temperature is getting unbearably hot every time shower is used. If we try and change heat setting towards the red cicrcles, it becomes boiling hot, overheats, becomes freezing cold, then gets boiling hot again. It then just continues on this cycle. At least when its on lowest heat setting it doesn't overheat but temperature is becoming unbearable.
Is there anythin we can do? We are by no means DIY enthusiasts!

A: The things to check first are.
1 That the main valve coming into your house is fully open.
2 Then check that the valve on the line to the shower is fully open.
If these valves are not fully open then there may not be enough water getting to your shower to cool it properly the overheat safety devicewill turn the power off until it cools Then it all starts again Make sure that the shower headis clean and clear, that the hose isn’t kinked (this can happen just behind thehand set where it is difficult to see) also check the inside of the hosealthough it can look OK on the outside it could have collapsed internally
The other possibility is a faulty flow/stabilizer valve not allowingthe correct amount of water into the shower.
A ruff check is to remove the shower head turn temperature control tofully hot the water coming out of the hose should be a bit more than a dribblethen turn to fully cold and it should be coming out at full flow.

A: Sorry for the delay in replying. You will need to replace the pilot valve. Unfortunately the pilot valve for this shower is obsolete, however........... This is the Pilot valve for the Sport which is still available http://www.showerdoc.com/shower-spares/mira/MIRA-419-87-Mira-Pilot-Valve-419-87 You can adapt it for the Essentials, you need to swap the white spindle that carries the knob with the one on your old valve. Check where the notches are on the sport spindle, because when you refit the essentials spindle it is important that you fit it in exactly the same position as the one you have removed. The pilot valve is a common fault Turn off water and power Put something in the waste just encase you drop a screw! Remove cover Remove splash plate at pipe entry Remove 4 screws from 'U' clamps and 'U' clamps Later models have “Torx” screws so you will need a “Torx” screwdriver with a T10 Bit. Remove screw above letter 'A' on drawing http://www.showerdoc.com/shower-spares/mira/MIRA-PARENT-16-Mira-Sport---post-1992 Ease pilot valve forward (if there is no movement on the pipe work you will have to disconnect it at the inlet connection take care to hold the brass body with pliers when slackening the nut) Swap the wires over from one pilot valve to the other one by one Then reassemble Turn on water and allow the water to come thru unit before switching on power. Q: There is water dripping from the bottom of my Essential shower unit (post 2000) and on inspection, it appears to be coming from the top of the Pilot Valve and running down the back of the casing. Is this the likely source and can it be replaced. The part is showing as obsolete but it appears to be almost the same as the Mira Sport (96-98), will that part fit ?

Q: Mira Essentials (Post 2000)
When I turn the shower on, the water heats up and stabilises for 10 seconds or so. Then the low pressure light comes on and it goes cold. I turn the temp dial up until the light goes off. It warms back up again for 10 seconds then the pressure light comes on again and it goes cold. This cycle keeps repeating itself until the temp dial is so high, it starts to begin a cycle of boiling hot-overheat-freezing cold-warms up to boiling hot-overheat-freezing cold and so on.
The pressure from the shower is no different to what it was before this started happening,
Any ideas?

A: I think you need a new Pilot valve Below is a rough guide to fitting the valve to a Mira Sport fitting to an essentials is almost exactly the same. Remove screw above letter 'A' on drawing Ease pilot valve forward (if there is no movement on the pipe work you will have to disconnect it at the inlet connection take care to hold the brass body with pliers when slackening the nut) Swap the wires over from one pilot valve to the other one by one Then reassemble Turn on water and allow the water to come thru unit before switching on power. Easy init!!!!! Link to Pilot valve http://showerdoc.com/shower-spares/mira/MIRA-419-86-Mira-Pilot-Valve-switching-Assembly---D-Drive-419-86 Answered 441 days ago | The Doc

A: This unit doesn’t have a solenoid valve. You will need to replace the pilot valve Here is the link. http://www.showerdoc.com/shower-spares/mira/MIRA-419-86-Mira-Pilot-Valve-switching-Assembly---D-Drive-419-86 This is the instructions for changing the pilot valve on a Mira sport, the change over is almost the same.
