A: Here is the explored view of the shower, it may help you to see the orientation of parts to see if you have gone wrong somewhere.

Q: I was wondering if there was ever a deeper chrome cover plate available for this unit, my problem is that I have just had new tiles fitted and I am now not able to get the controls to fit back onto the spindle as they can not reach. My unit is one of the hidden pipework units and the connections are hard up against the backing panel. It would need to be about 1" deep to allow the controls to fit. hope this all makes some sense

A: Sorry but there is no such item. Since the tiling has caused the problem I would be inclined to look for a solution there first. Answered 3 days ago | Barrie

Q: We have a 30 yr old Mira 8. You have to jiggle the black ring and the grey one to get any water to come out at all - and then it is only a trickle of water. What would we need to replace to get the shower going again? Thanks, Sheila

Q: I REPLACED MY WAR AIR HEATING SYSTEM WITH A RADIATOR SYSTEM UTILISING A WORCESTER BOSCH COMBI BOILER SO THAT THE SHOWER EFFECTIVELY WORKS UNDER MAINS
PRESSURE. THE SHOWER CONTROL WHICH HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO TURN OFF HAS NOW STARTED TO WEEP THROUGH THE SPINDLE.
YOUR HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED
P.S i HAVE JUST RECEIVED A MIRA SERVICE PACK

A: The pressures from the combi are too great for the shower and this shower also needs balanced pressures. You can if you have good access to the pipe work fit PRV`s to the pipes inorder to control the pressures once the combi is fitted.

Q: One of your answers says that the Mira 8 is not suitable to run with a combi boiler. Could you explain please? I was going to get a service pack for my shower as it is sticking on closure but I'm also just about to replace my boiler with a combi or a mains pressure one. I would appreciate your advice.

Q: hi was wondering if or what would be the easiest for a straight swap, was going to buy new cartridge and knob packs, but after 30 years the old boy owes nothing, so retirement looms, not really wanting the hassle of patching tiles etc

A: Yes these are remarkable valves, to be honest a service kitor depending on how worn it is, a new set of internals will keep it going in definitelyAnd a new set of knobs will make it look OK I don’t have the centres of this valve however if you let meknow I can perhaps point you in the right direction (Most modern valves have150mm centres) The only issue is that this valve has 15.. male ironconnections the modern valves have 15mm tails suitable for a compression fitting. Q: I have an old Mira 8 shower which has not been used for some time because it was sticking and sometimes wouldn't turn off. Would replacing the Internal Set cartridge and Knob pack effectively give me the equivalent of a new shower? It was a DIY installation so I am tempted by an easy option or would I be better going for a more modern shower. Or is the Mira 8 still a good shower in comparison with newer models. The shower was well used over a long time so I presume that a new cartridge set is more likely to be needed rather than a service kit.

A: The Mira 8 was in my opinion one of the best showers of it’s time! As long as you are not connected to a combi boiler there is no reason for changing it A service pack will normally solve most of the problems, however if it is fairly old then the brass components internally start to wear so it can be more sensible to just to fit the internal set An internal set and a new set of knobs and you should have a shower that will last for many yeasr. Q: I have a very old Miira Shower mixer, it looks like an 8 (black knurled on off ring, with temp control in centre, grey with with mira in centre of a surfboard shaped temp pointer!
the knurled ring and temp control are prone to jamming, when you turn off or on, you have to twiddle both controls!
There are no visible screws to dismount. Does the centre temp control just pull off? i am reluctant to try, as it all works after a fashion! BUT it would be nice to make it work more smoothly....

A: Good morning,
Thank you for your email.
The temperature control knob simply pulls off. However, you may have to use two small falt-bladed screwdrivers (one on each side) and rock it gently to persuade it to come off. Once it has been removed you will see the circlip that holds on the flow control knob. Removing this clip will allow the flow control knob to be removed.
I hope that this helps you out.

Q: The two brass pistons (held in by horseshoe clips) that are on the main section that the spindle goes through.
These 2 pistons have O rings on the domed end, how do I get the new ones over the domed heads (stretch?) as these O rings seen so small.
Thanking you in hopes.

Q: In all the installation diagrams I have seen for the Mira 8, the outlet to the shower head is shown on the top. I want to refurbish a Mira 8 but want to rotate the body so that the outlet is downwards for connection to a hose. Is this possible and will the shower work satisfactorily?

Q: I have tried to get the front hex plate off the mixer unit - but unsuccessful. The shower is leaking and needs a service. Before I mangle the brass too much 1) it is a left hand thread? 2) is there a recommended tool to attack this.

A: These can be a bu**er, it is a standard thread. First go round the outside edge giving it some sharp taps with a hammer not enough to damage it but be firm this may release any sticktion If that fails then pour two or three kettles of boiling water over it this may expand the brass enough to release it. If that doesn’t work you will have to apply heat from a gas torch, try heating turning and tapping alternately. If that doesn’t work then I have a contact that may be able to supply you with some TNT. Answered 506 days ago | The Doc

A: Hi There, If your shower is the Mira 88 then you need to replace the knobs with the Mira 88 ones. The part comes as the knob pack now and the part number you require is provided in the link. http://www.showerdoc.com/shower-spares/mira/MIRA-PARENT-75-Mira-88---post-1984 It might be worth serving the internals of the valve with the seal kit as its probalby never been done. Part Numbers 937.84 Knob pack 936.12 Seal Kit Regards The Shower Doctor Answered 826 days ago | Anonymous
