Q: the valve needs turning to almost full cold to be at a useable temperature, at this setting the water flow is also greatly reduced.
If the valve is turned at all towards the hot setting the water becomes unbearably hot.

A: It sounds like this valve is connected to a combi boiler, unfortunately the valve is not designed for a combi boiler and this can cause difficulty in getting the temperature to balance. Fitting a service kit may help solve the problem, however the only real answer is to fit a combi compatible valve such as the Mira 415 or the Mira Combi force or the Excel. http://www.showerdoc.com/showers/mira/mixer-showers Answered 15 days ago | The Doc

A: Turnoff the water and strip out the inners of the shower Whenit is out give the pipe work a flush out. Thiswill take two! Ifyour valve is recessed pack an old poly bag round the valve to divert the waterinto your Bath / shower tray then turn the hot and cold valves on one at a timeand allow the water to flush through for about 15>20 seconds. Theperson who is helping you should watch that the water is not going anywhere thatis going to do any damage also they should watch that the amount of watercoming from the hot and cold they should be roughly the same. Ifthe flow from the cold is much poorer then it is likely that you have a fault withthe plumbing rather than the shower valve, when the shower is in bits it wouldbe worthwhile fitting a service kit. A: First thing to check is that you are actually getting hot water to the shower. If this is the case then it needs a strip down clean lube and a service kit fitted and that should solve any problems. Answered 53 days ago | Barrie

Q: Our Mira 88 temperature control is now very sensitive and only a slight touch to the knob changes the water temperature from too cold to too hot. Which parts or service pack do I need to correct this?

A: Sounds to me like you may be on a combi boiler? The valve is a low pressure valve and therefore not designedto work with a combi. If you are on a combi fitting a service kit may helpbut there is no guarantee. If you are on low pressure then fitting a service kit shouldsolve the problem. Answered 59 days ago | The Doc

Q: waterboard have upped our( CW ) area pressure to 3.5bar and our old Mira 88 is now running warm on a potterton combi system, it leaks and i fancy changing it for a Mira Excel, this looks a straight swop,is it ? and will this solve our new pressure problem , as it says it works at all pressures, i am assuming the 88 is not thermostatically controlled..... Cheers

A: There is no straight swop as the fittings dont match. You could fit PRV`s to the shower pipes to reduce the pressure. Or it`s new plumbing by the sounds of it. Answered 84 days ago | Barrie

Q: Ever since I moved into my house my recessed Mira 88 has been backwards, moving the temp dial to cold makes it hot and vice versa. Can I reverse the fitting without removing tiles? Also to get the hot working you have to lay the head in the bath and turn it to full cold (hot) for a minute before it splutters and starts coming through. Any ideas?

Q: Just bought a house built in 2003 with 3 Mira 88 type showers. Our main shower seems to need the outer wheel turned around many turns to fully on and the temperarature dial to full hot just to get it to work at running temperature. Turn the main dial backing off the full pressure just makes it run cold?
We have a standard non combi boiler but it is a sealed system and so the water pressures are quite good but as we are on a water meter it seems wrong to have to turn the shower pressure full on to get a hot shower? Is there a way of restricting the cold flow rate in the mixer as the pipes are all tiled in? To remove the dials do they just pul outwards or is there hidden fixings somewhere to undo? We haven't tried the other two showers yet to see if they work in the same way?
Cheers Harvey

A: Strange??? The 88 is essentially a low pressure shower, as long as the pressures are not too high and the pressures are roughly balanced it should work without too much of a problem So in the first instance I would fit a service kit to the shower that is causing a problem, if this doesn’t work then you should consider fitting a pressure reducing valve to the cold supply and set this to the same pressure as the hot supply. http://www.showerdoc.com/shower-spares/mira/MIRA-936-12-Mira-Service-Pack-components-Identified-B-936-12 Answered 206 days ago | The Doc

Q: I am re-tiling the shower with larger and thicker tiling so I need to release the shower assembly to cope with the thicker tiles (it is screwed into a batten). I have removed the temperature dial, the little washer and the water on/off control revealing the cover assembly - the big nut. I can't budge this even with a very large wrench - the whole housing just turns putting pressure on the hot and cold pipes. I have even tried it with two people with one supporting the whole assembly to stop it swivelling but to no avail.
Have you any ideas on how to undo this large nut without damaging the pipes (or anything else)?

Q: Is this shower compatible with a combination boiler?
I've inherited this in my house and the cold water is overpowering the hot water producing a tepid temperature even when the control knob is hard over to 'hot'.
Anything I can do?

A: This is a supply problem as the shower cannot alter the temperature by itself. If it is fed from a combi boiler then would have the boiler checked. Answered 462 days ago | Alastair

Q: Hi,
My Mira 88 has a leak where water dribbles out during use from between the main housing (The bit you turn to start the shower) and the temperature control nob.
I assume it is an internal washer of some description.
Any ideas which part it is likely to be ? and how to repair (Probably work it our from the diagrams)
Thanks.

Q: Hi,
I have a Mira 88 shower mixer which now restricts the flow of water probably due to the hard water we have in the area and calcification of impurities creating restriction.
The threaded housing cover will not budge so thinking of replacing whole mixer assembly. pipes are external through ceiling down to unit.
Are they still available?
Many thanks

Q: I have just had my gravity system replaced by a mains pressure system.
The pressure is now 3 Bar.
My Mira 88 shower valve worked fine on the gravity system.
With the increased pressure the valve is now noisy and vibrates.
Is the Mira 88 a high pressure valve?
Will changing the internal set of the valve solve this problem?

Q: Hi
I have a MIra 88 wall mounted shower that will no longer run cold, the hot/cold dial turns adequatelly, but the cold flow is cut completelly, making the shower unusable. As the shower is 21/22 years old, I am considering a repacement valve rather than a repair, but the supply pipes are concelled behinb the tiled wall. Therefore, could you tell me;
on a new valve, are the connection fittings the same (type and size) and are the hot and cold inlet centres the same.
If I have to alter pipes, I will have to remove the tilled wall.
