Q: When you talk about cleaning and greasing the Piston when servicing. Can you provide moe details? Do you strip the piston down? remove the clear plastic cover etc, or are you just talking about greasing the outside of the piston?

Q: I bought these items from you (great service!). Having fitted the thermostat and piston I notice that there is a "factory set" statement on the sticker on the rear of the unit. As I removed this and the big brass screw and spring, is there some rule of thumb when re-fitting?

A: With the Sirrus 1500 or 1800 series that in almost every occasion the first thing to do is give them a strip down clean and lube and fit a service kit, this will cure 85% of any problems and it is also the cheapest thing to do. If after servicing you find out that it needs a thermostat or piston, nothing is really lost because it almost certainly needed a service in any case. The 1500 http://www.showerdoc.com/shower-spares/sirrus-by-gummers/GUM-PARENT-34-Sirrus-1500---Thermostatic-Shower The seal that shuts the water off is the seal that fits into the base of part 5 in an old valve this looks like a flat washer, it is in fact a thick heavy ‘O’ ring, this can be a difficult seal to fit. When fitting make sure that all the old seal is removed and no bits are hiding under the lip, give the seal a heat in hot water and make sure that the seal is well greased before fitting, once it is pressed in there can be bumpy bits on the face of the seal, rolling and pressing a screwdriver handle over the bumps a few times can help to smooth them out. The seal housing is available which has the washer already pressed in if for some reason you have difficulty fitting the new seal. http://www.showerdoc.com/gum-sk1500-22-sirrus-ts1500-housing-kit-sk1500-22 Answered 43 days ago | Barrie

A: The normal cause of this is the piston sticking so checkthat it is well greased You can check the thermostat To test the stat you need a cup of hot and a cup of coldwater and a felt tip pen Dip the brass part of the stat into the cold water for10secs then mark with the felt tip the steel pin as it comes out of the brasscapsule now dip it into the hot cup thepin should move out about 2 to 4mm dip it back in to the cold and it shouldretract. The way to set the temperature is to turn on the shower tothe hottest position remove the centre screw water will dribble out, this isOK, insert a long thin screwdriver down through the centre of the valve in tothe temp adjusting screw, screw clock wise for hotter and anti clock wise forcooler . Q: Hi there,
I have a showerforce 971-t which I installed about 6 years ago. Last week the temp has been unable to go above luke warm even when its set to full on hot. All taps in the house warm up ok and theres no problem with pressure, so its not a combi issue. Would you recomend the thermostat and piston to fix this?

Q: Hi,
I have a sirrus shower mixer. It only gives luke warm water - even if I set 9. I tried to clean unit inside but did not help. It also started dripping. I have to close it very hard to stop ip, although even then it sometimes keeps dripping. What shall I replace? Just thermostat or thermostat & piston? Will this one fit my unit? Shall I replace the seals using the SK1500-1 service kit?
Please advise.
Thanks.

A: You may have to adjust the temperature control as follows, Turn temp control to maximum remove knob insert a long thin flat bladed screwdriver engage the adjuster and turn anticlockwise to increase temperature , aloow about 15 to 20 seconds to allow stabilisation once you have reached the max temp you require refit knob in maximum position. Q: The shower mixer has started causing the shower pump to hunt causing the water to stop and start. The platic part in the thermostat has a lug broken off, is this anything to do with the problem.
|

|
Submitted 438 days ago | by
Laurence, Swanage
A: If there is only one broken lug then this shouldn’t cause the pump to hunt. The usual things that cause a pump to hint is poor water supply, so can you check the pump and shower inlet filters and make sure that they are clear. The other possible fault, is faulty flow sensors on the pump Answered 437 days ago | The Doc

Q: Hi
We have the Galaxy Nova shower just over a year and the water is hot then goes cold and then hot again after a couple of minutes can you advise what parts this will need?
We have had the boiler checked and serviced by a gas safe engineer and we do not have this problem with the taps?
Thanks

A: This shower will not change temperature untouched, but it may be causing the boier to cycle hot and cold if there is not sufficient flow . Check that the hose is not kinked or collapsed internally and the head is clear. If they are ok then it is definitely a boiler problem Answered 449 days ago | Alastair

Q: I have replaced the theromostat and piston SK1500-3. the water temperature before hand was variable and running cold most of the time.
Since i replaced these parts i have been getting hotter water. I have adjusted the thermostat by inserting screwgdriver down the spindle and water has got hotter. It seems that it is not holding its temperature setting as when i return the water is not as hot as i need it.
The water is hotter when i take of the shower head. i have replaced the shower head and hose and still no hot water is getting through the shower head but warmer when i take of the head.
Im really puzzled. it is opn a gravity fed sustem with a 1.5 bar shower pump. The pressure as also been effected too. PLease can you help me.
many thanks

A: After adjusting with screwdriver did you leave it for about 10-15 seconds to allow it to stabilise before checking ? If the shower is supplied from a combi boiler or an unvented hot water cylinder then it may be that col supply pressure is too high, if so a pressure reducing valve may be needed in the cold supply to the shower. A: I am not sure I’ve have you exactly correct but if you mean the seal that comes with the kit, that seal should be fitted into the shower body and the shuttle rubs up and down against it Answered 501 days ago | The Doc
