Sirrus 1600 dripping shower unit

Suffered a dripping shower for ages until I finally got round to ordering a 1600 seal kit to have a go at repairing the leak. What took 10 minutes to do on the video took me most of the day. I had to pop to the DIY to buy a wrench that was big enough and robust enough to undo the unit as it was pretty solid and took quite a bit of encouragement to remove. Once I started to take the unit apart I could see it was all caked with 10 years of blue tinted limescale so even if i replaced all the seals it was likely to still leak because of the scale. So i filled a cup with some old liquid "brick cleaner" (aka diluted hydrochloric acid, so take precautions) and dunked the scaled up parts to dissolve away the scale. Bit by bit i managed to take it all apart, replace the seals and apply the silicon. With the help of the video I managed to reassemble in the correct order and refit and hey presto no more leaking shower!! It took me hours but I was pleased with the success and wished I had done it sooner. Having used the shower since the water is now a lot cooler so I am going to have to get a long thin srewdriver into the unit and see if i can adjust the thermostat which i am hoping hasn't been damaged by the descaling acid.
