Low pressure!

Hi, I have a Triton Jade II which was fitted by my landlord about 4 yeras ago when we moved in.

Other the past couple of months, there has been a couple of times when the water has suddenly run cold during a shower and we have had to turn it off then on again (which worked most times). On Sunday, the shower cut off and the whole electrics of the house went... long strory short my landlord still wasn't convinced it was the shower that did it.

Power is back on and the shower is working...ish. The pressure has never been great and the low pressure light has always been on from day dot, but now it is really low. My landlord insists it is blocked - I regularly clean the shower head, an no, the hose isn't blocked. After looking at another query on here about low pressure, I though I wouls check the pressure at other temps - the cold, economy or high settings (we've always had to have it on high) make no difference, but if I switch staight down to cold, the pressure is amazing - so much better than it had ever been on level 5 or 6 wher we usually have it. If I turn right up to 10, it reduced to practically a trickle!

So, is there something wrong with this shower? Does it need replacing? Why would the pressure vary with temperature? I am thnking the reason why the pressure is recently so rubbish is because after the cutout on Sunday we've had to have the temperature up higher as it has seem to be running much colder.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If the low pressurelight is on then you probably have low pressure, this would also explain why itgoes cold every so often, is the shower connected to the water mains? And doyou have a minimum of one bar pressure in the mains?

If the shower is now running cooler than it was then it is likelythat one of the elements has “blown” this is what will have caused the fuse totrip.

See below for how to test theelements.

It maybe a faulty element in the heating tank (there are two, three in most 10kwshowers) you can check them with a multi meter you should have a reading ofaround 12>18 ohms.

If you have power to the elementsand no heat it's probably the elements, no power to the elements thenit's probably a micro switch.

If you don’t have amultimeter  we sell them at £10 each with a guide on how to use them forchecking and testing the various parts of your shower.

Apart from helping to fix yourshower, they are really useful for checking you have a power supply toappliances, for checking fuses, letting you know much power you have left inbatteries

(so you know if they are dud ornot)  and lots of other jobs, in short they are well  worth the £10.
