How do I find out whether it's the cartridge or the gasket?

I've had to replace the loom on my Aquastream due to water dripping onto the switch. How do I find out if it's the gasket that needs changing or the cartridge? A gasket is £5.38 and the cartridge is £86.26 so it would be good to only change the cartridge.

You could change the gasket to see if this solves the leak, or buy a cartridge which comes with a gasket and may be save yourself some time/money.
