Won't run at full power

The shower runs fine at the lower pump speed setting but won't switch up to the higher speed when I turn the dial. It is approx 4-5 years old a d has worked fine until now. Water flow hasn't changed so should be fine. I wonder if it's a problem with the cartridge or in the switching mechanism itself. Any ideas? Thanks.
