Aqualiser Colt Mixer Valve

My recently installed mixer valve is stiff and a little difficult to turn on. More often than not the temperature control turns at the same time. I was very happy with the old valve it was easier to grip. Are there other options of control knob or can it be freed off easily.

Below is a link to the older style knob which will fit. the new one is impossible with soapy hands!
