Right Cartridge?

Hi

I have a SCI0404 shower enclosure from B&Q, about 4 years old with, I think, an Aqaumix revitalise thermo mixer shower in it. The temperature seems to eratic, or just cold, I assume that the cartridge is broken? Big limescale issue here. Is this the right one cartridge? Are these standard items? How can I tell? (Combi boiler by the way, thanks.)

To check whether you have a boiler or shower fault.

Turn the shower on as usual, try and get a hold of the pipe going tothe shower, if you can’t get to the pipe at the shower you may be able to get toit as it leaves the boiler.

What ever the temperature is on/in this pipe, the shower can neverget any hotter than that (So if the temperature is cool then something then atthe boiler is not allowing the water to heat up enough)

The other fault is wide variations in thetemperature of the water leaving the boiler.

A thermostatic shower valve should be able to even out smallvariations in temperature however if you have large variations then you have aboiler fault.

Youwill have to find out which cartridge you have.

Pinkfor a combi or multipoint and grey any system with balanced (equal)pressures.

Removethe on/off knob should just pull forward however it can be a bit of a bu**erthen remove the 4 screws that hold the temperature knob in place, remove thetemperature knob and then you will see the colour of your cartridge.

If youalready have the cartridge and want to carry on and replace it you will have toturn the water off to the shower.

Thenremove the cartridge you will need to remove the 4 large screws at the side ofthe cartridge these have posidrive or ‘Torx’ T25 heads depending on thereage.

Pullthe cartridge forward to remove.

Beforefitting the new cartridge you should replace the small ‘O’ ring at the rear ofthe body this is another bu**er to change……(something like a crochet hook or thesort of thing that dentists use will help)

It is not always necessary to replace this ring however if there anyproblems with the cartridge, the first question you will be asked is did youreplace the ‘O’ ring? if the answer is no! then you will be told to phone backonce it has been replaced.

Whenyou refit the cartridge make sure that the slot, (usually on the right of thebody ) the gasket and the body all line up properly then retighten thescrews.

On theolder versions you have to reuse the original brass screws if you have this typebe careful not to over tighten the screws because the brass inserts in the bodymay split, on a few occasions you may find they have split when you remove theold cartridge if this happens then you will probably have toreplace the body.

Refitthe temperature control knob (new screws supplied) the fit the on/ off knob, turn the water back on and check for leaks, if everything is OKremove clothes and have a shower!!!

I have a SCI0404 shower enclosure from B&Q, about 4 years old with slight permanent leak coming from the water control valve and running down the control side of the enclosure . I think judging from an earlier question it is Aqualisa system. The occures when the shower is on, when the shower is turned off the the leak slowly stops. Starting to create limescale. Can I get the correct parts for this shower if not are there standard items? How can I tell? (Pump from hot tank by the way,
