High pitched shreiking noise from Aqualisa mixer with Combi boiler

My Aqualisa mixer shower with Vailant Combi boiler is 20 years old and recently wasn't used for a month. When we started using it again it worked OK but emitted a high pitched vibrating noise like an electric drill. I have felt the feed pipes (checking for 'water hammer') but they seem OK. We live in an area where lime scale can be a problem. Will the cartridge be at fault?

It maybe that the lime scale has hardened in the cartridge and is causing this to happen. It may clear with use.

I have a Aqalisa Aquamixer (pink cartridge) control that is leaking from the control knob.I have replaced the main gasket (with filter) but it is still leaking. It is leaking up the main spindle,is it possible to dismantle it further to replace the shaft seals.
