Intermittent start

Since the weather has turned cold I have been getting problems getting shower to start if the bathroom is cold (no heating on) when you press the button the solenoid operates (about one second) and there's a spurt of water, when the bathroom heater has been on for a short time and you press the button the solenoid works for about two seconds with a longer spurt of water but when the bathroom has fully warmed up the shower will start first time - every time. I'm not aware of anything on the shower that could be affected by external temperatures. Any ideas

I certainly am not aware of anything in the shower that should be affected by the temperature.

If anything it is probably the flow valve that is beginning to fail which is part of the engine so I think replacing the engine will solve the problem.
