You need a 40Amp if your shower is 8.5 or 9.5 if you have the 10.5 version you need a 45Amp fuse
Failing that I think you may have a faulty engine which is now unfortunately discontinued.

thanks for your response.
this shower isnt on is own circuit, its plugged into a socket in the attic on the 'upstairs sockets' ring.
it states a 3amp plug is needed on the aqualisa site, but they must have had problems before as there was a 5amp in there when i swapped it out.
ive showered today, but not before turning the 'upstairs sockets' circuit off at the main fuse board/consumer unit for 3-4mins, then back on.
there isnt an isolation unit, or 45amp fuse or anything else you would associate with a shower. just a normal sized flex with a white plug on, with a 5amp fuse in-plugged in a spur socket in the attic.
theres replacement units on ebay for a few quid, (up to £50) i wonder if i should just get one
