Know slipping

Hi. On Gainsborough Ambassador Exposed shower, the on/ off knob is slipping when being turned on or off. Like a ratchet clicking. And is very stiff. Does the knob or the thermostat cartridge need replacing.? There are no problems with the heat of the shower. Is there another part that could need to be replaced also?

It could be either

If the cartridge is tightening up then this could cause the knob to jump the splines or where the knob fits the splines it could be broken. Take a very close look at the inside of the knob and see if you see a split on the part that fits on to the cartridge.
