It’s that time of the year again and we have decided to bring you something a little different. If you’re anything like the team at Shower Doc a large portion of the impending festivities will involve being curled up on the settee in your onesie, or wrapped in cosy slankett watching Christmas movies! This is without doubt the most popular past time in December for the majority of the team. Throw in a hot chocolate with marshmallows on top and a tin of Quality Street and you have the definition of heaven! Because we enjoy watching Christmas movies so much, a debate that often crops up is that of the best movie characters! We can’t decide on the order of the “best” or “most popular”, so we are going to list the top 3 we feel are definitely up there:
1: Buddy the Elf

Buddy was a baby in an orphanage who stowed away in Santa's sack and ended up in the North Pole. Later, as an adult human who happened to be raised by elves, Santa allows him to go to New York City to find his birth father. From here Buddy gets into all sorts of trouble, while at the same time getting to know his father, step mother, step brother and the love of his life. In among all this he saved Santa and Christmas from the Central Park Rangers! This truly is a genius, feel good movie appreciated by everyone no matter their age.
Remember: The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!
2: The Grinch

Inside a snowflake exists the magical land of Whoville. In Whoville, the Whos reside, an almost mutated sort of ‘munchkin like’ people. All the Whos love Christmas, yet just outside of their beloved Whoville lives the Grinch. The Grinch is a nasty creature that hates Christmas, and plots to steal it away from the Whos which he equally dislikes! However, Cindy Lou Who has other ideas and decides to befriend the Grinch and show him the true meaning of Christmas. A story that has been told many times over the years whether as a movie or cartoon and I think we all can agree the Jim Carrey version made in 2000 sets the benchmark for all other Grinch movies! You’re a mean one Mr Grinch!
3: George Bailey

No Christmas list would be complete without George Bailey or some form of reference to ‘It’s a Wonderful life’. George spent his entire life giving to the people of Bedford Falls. He has always longed to travel but never had the opportunity in order to prevent rich skinflint Mr. Potter from taking over the entire town. All that prevents him from doing so is George's modest building and loan company, which was founded by his generous father. But on Christmas Eve, George's Uncle Billy loses the business's $8,000 while intending to deposit it in the bank. Potter finds the misplaced money and hides it from Billy. When the bank examiner discovers the shortage later that night, George realizes that he will be held responsible and sent to jail and the company will collapse, finally allowing Potter to take over the town. Thinking of his wife, their young children, and others he loves will be better off with him dead, he contemplates suicide. Now we defy anyone not to turn into a blubbering wreck at some point during this film, and we aren’t going to go into it too much more in case you haven’t seen this masterpiece of a movie!
Remember: Every time you hear a bell ring, it means that some angel's just got his wings.
We considered many other characters such as Scrooge, Fred Clause, Willie (Bad Santa), Herman Murman, Jim Hardy, Buddy Hall, and that’s before we got into the whole debate about whether Die Hard 1, Die Hard 2 and Trading Places are Christmas movies or not! We hope you have enjoyed our final post before Christmas and that it evokes some happy feelings and the desire to watch some of these films.
