Why the bathroom is the best room in the house

There's a lot to be said for the humble bathroom. While it might not always be the largest room in the house, or the one where people tend to congregate during parties, there's still an argument to be had for considering it to be the best room under your roof.

This point is certainly worth considering when you're looking at redecorating or completely replacing what's in there at the moment - just because you won't spend as much time in there as the living room, for example, doesn't mean you should put any less thought or effort into its renovation.

So, what is it about the bathroom that makes it so great and why is it so important to give it the attention it deserves? Here are a few reasons we came up with.

It's a great place to relax

Whether you're enjoying a relaxing bath with the candles lit and a glass of wine on the side or soaking underneath a pulsating hot shower, there are few areas that are better to wind down after a hard day's work than the bathroom.

It's easy to see why, as this part of your home is probably the closest you're going to get to having an on-site spa - so there's no reason why you can't design it and use it accordingly.

Because of the nature of the room, it's also much less likely the bathroom will end up getting filled with clutter in the same way that some other rooms are prone to. Having the space clean and clear only adds to those feelings of serenity and with the number of bath products available to help you relax even further, it's no surprise that the bathroom is the most laid-back room in the house.

It can be a superb selling point if you ever want to move

For those who are not DIY-inclined, having a ready-to-go, stylish, modern bathroom can be a real turn-on for prospective buyers.

With this in mind, the space can be a real selling point for your house if it's done nicely. While it's unlikely that anyone would buy a property purely based on the quality of the bathroom, it's certainly feasible to suggest that a good bathroom could be what seals the deal when it comes to convincing someone to make a bid.

It offers a place where no-one will bother you

Arguably, the bathroom is the only place in the house where you can go on the understanding that people will leave you alone and give you a bit of head space.

Whether this time is spent sitting on the toilet or soaking in the bath, the bathroom represents a palace of solitude - an area where you can escape the hustle bustle of the rest of the home and contemplate, even if it is only for a few minutes at a time.

Because of this, it's important to invest in getting your bathroom to a standard where you can enjoy those precious moments alone.

It's a place where you can learn vital DIY skills

Believe it or, there are many parts of the bathroom that you can renovate yourself with little or no hassle.

If you've never attempted DIY before, then this part of the house could be where you end up cutting your teeth. Because the space is relatively small compared to other rooms, it's likely the jobs you undertake here will be equally proportioned.

As a result, tasks like laying down flooring, tiling, installing a ceiling, and painting and decorating can all be attempted and completed more quickly than if you were to try them for the first time in other parts of the house.

There also the opportunity to fit objects like shelving or cabinets to the wall, allowing you the opportunity to add more strings to your bow.

It forms part of your daily routine

Ignoring your bedroom, your bathroom is the place you're most likely to start and end every day. For this reason, it's important to put the effort that it deserves into making it a nice place to be - somewhere that's run-down and grimy is hardly likely to lift your spirits after dragging yourself out of bed to get ready for work.

If you're good, you'll spend a few minutes cleaning your teeth and washing your face twice a day here - so investing in a nice mirror cabinet makes perfect sense, as it's something you're guaranteed to use everyday. Many double up as storage as well, making it much easier to keep this hallowed space tidy!

Unlike the living room - and even to some extent, the kitchen - you have to be in the bathroom every day. This certainly adds to our argument that it's the best room in the house!
