Cold water only in shower and bath

I have a Bristan Compass Thermostatic shower with a diverter which has been in our second bathroom for 8 years but not used for the past 7 years due to only getting cold water from the bath filler or shower head.

How can I now fix this? Is it something I could attempt myself with instructions or would I need a plumber?

I would first check that the hot inlet filter isn’t blocked

I would then flush out the valve

This will take two!

 

If your valve is recessed pack an old poly bag round the valve to divert the water into your Bath / shower tray then turn the hot and cold valves on one at a time and allow the water to flush through for about 15>20 seconds.

 

The person who is helping you should watch that the water is not going anywhere that is going to do any damage. Also they should watch that the amount of water coming from the hot and cold they should be roughly the same.

 

If these are OK then I think you need a new thermostatic cartridge.
