SK1850-2 flow problem

Hi

I have SK1850-2.. recently I noticed shower not hot enough. I refitted the cartridge, temp ok. and was ok for while then flow reduced. refit again, then ok for while then flow reduced again.

Also I tested flow by removing cartridge completely and switching water on.. flow seemed very powerful.

Flow in rest of house is fine. Downstairs shower is fine and v powerful.

Do I need new cartridge ?

Cheers

Thereshould be! But not always filters in the inlet elbows  first thing to do ismake sure that they areclean and clear.

Theother problem i you may have a sticking shuttle/piston, see below.

With the Sirrus 1500 or 1800 series valves if there anyproblems the first thing to do is give them a strip down clean and lube and fita service kit, this will cure 85% of any problems with these valves and it isalso the cheapest thing to do!

If after servicing you find out that it needs a newthermostat and piston assembly nothing is really lost because it almostcertainly needed a service in any case.

 The 1500

The seal that shuts the water off is theseal that fits into the base of part 5 in an old valve this looks like a flatwasher, it is in fact a thick heavy ‘O’ ring, this can be a difficult seal to fit.

When fitting make sure that all the old sealis removed and no bits are hiding under the lip, give the new seal a heat inhot water and make sure that the seal is well greased before fitting, once itis pressed in there can be bumpy bits on the face of the seal, rolling and pressinga screwdriver handle over the bumps a few times can help to smooth them out.

The seal housing is available as a sparewhich has the washer already pressed in, if for some reason you have difficultyfitting the new seal.

Take photos as you strip it down you canthen refer to them when you are rebuilding.

The 1800

There is no real difficulty with this valvehowever it looks a little more complicated than the 1500 just take photos asyou strip it down you can then refer to them when you are rebuilding.
