Bristan 1901 shower does not get hot

Moved into a house with a Bristan 1901 shower. The temperature knob has never done very much, and we did previously have a problem with getting hot water to the shower which was cured by turning up the temperature on the hot water tank. Now we again can't get hot water (bath and basin are fine, very hot). There is a booster pump, which we have not used, otherwise there is a large hot water tank in the basement and a large cold water tank in the loft. I have taken out the valve and tried descaling it, but no difference. Tonight I tried running it with only the hot supply, and it ran cold until the hot water came through and then slowed to a trickle once the water became comfortably warm. Turning on the cold water again left the shower cold. The cartridge appears to be a cart 5, though not as shiny as pictured, and does not have the fourth seal fitted. I'm guessing that tonight's test means that it is cutting off the flow of hot water as soon as it gets usefully hot, and that means that it's just the thermostatic cartridge. Does this sound like a correct diagnosis, or are there any more tests that I can usefully do first?

Yes , from your tests it would appear that you have a faulty cartridge.
