Intermittent fault
The issue was the temperature control. Whilst checking the flow at fully hot and fully cold (according to the unit images) I was satisfied that the stabiliser valve was okay. I then found that the temperature control valve went around over 360 degrees. So I turned it as far as possible towards cold, reset the control knob to match position on the unit images and then turned it up towards hot again which is just under 180degrees. All works perfectly again. Constant temperature, light not going on and off, people enjoying a nice shower.
