Crosswater Thermostatic Cartridge - GP0000250

I have tried to remove the cartridge using an audjustable spanner but haven't been able to get a good angle on the nut because the chrome casing surrounding it is in the way. Is it normal that this is such an awkward job and do I therefore need some specialist equipment to turn the nut?

Also, when I screwed in the Cold non-return valve the water stopped coming out of the shower head but when i closed that valve and screwed in the Hot non-return valve the shower head continued to produce freezing cold water. Is this likely to mean that the problem (I only get freezing cold water) is with the Hot non-return valve rather than the cartridge?

Thanks for your help.

I am not sure I understand, you shouldn’t have anydifficulty with this can’t you remove the “chrome casing”? If that is a problemcan you send us a couple of photos of the valve/problem.

The cartridge thing tends to suggest a faulty cartridge ot ablocked inlet filter on the hot side.

The chrome casing appears to be joined to the valve. The instruction manual crossway sent me said you need to use "a box spanner, adjustable spanner or mole grips". Does this not indicate that the chrome casing cannot be removed and it's an awkward job? Would you expect the cylindrical chrome casing to simply be screwed onto the main part of the valve?
