Hot water cut out

I have a Gainsborough 9.5CE and over a period of time I have had to turn the temperature control up to keep the same temperature coming from the shower.

I live in quite a chalky area - does this mean that the heating element is gettinmg furred up?

Yesterday the element cut out and only cold water came out. Today the water was hot again.

Can the element be removed to descale?

What other option do I have?

Thank you for a quick answer

First check that the head and hose are clear and the inlet valve to the shower is fully open.
The element is a non user repairable item and a new engine maybe required.
