Replacing 300x control knob

When replacing a control knob, is it as easy as just unscrewing old knob to get cog off in the back, screwing on new knob to cog and then putting cover back on? Is there something I need to do get cog to catch water control valve?

Unfortunately if the cog on the back of the control knob is not available as a spare now and if is is cracked or broken then you will need to buy the complete cover for which ever shower you have.

Sometimes it looks like the cog is broken but it usually turns out to the the fins on the back of the control knob that mesh through the grey cog on the back of the cover so only the knob is needed GNS-95605015.

ASLO - if you find the alighnment post on the rear of the cover thats slots in to the centre of the water control valve is broken then you will also need a new cover.
