Leaking Flow Control

I have water leaking from the temperature/flow control on the gainsborough 9.5 delux shower. I unscrewed the front cover and pulled out the piece (looks different to picture above). The washer seems fine but I can't get the piece back in. It seems to have to fit in to the teeth of 2 runners but then won't fit flush to the shower engine unit. Any advice/suggestions?

This is the shower that you mention and if it is the blue part on the engine then you may have it the wrong way round.

Have a look at this picture of the engine , it may help.
