Flow reduces

Now and again, soon after switching on, the flow reduces to a trickle and the usual operating noise rises to a whine. Dropping the shower head as low as it will go helps the flow return to normal. Any idea what the problem is?

From your description it sounds like air is getting into the system however the first thing I would do is strip out the filters and make sure that they are clean.
