heat control knob

the heat control knob keeps popping out of the unit when the unit is turned on. There is a metal sprung clip loose in the unit but I can't work out where its come from. Any ideas?

The back of the knob maybe broken, but it is not held on by a metal clip. So I do not know where this comes from.
