This question is regarding Galaxy Thermal Cut Out (TCO) - SG06004

Thermal cut out switch smoking.

One of the wires attached to the thermal cut out switch has started smoking and gone black. I'm not sure whether to change the part and/or wires, or get a whole new shower

Is it likely to happen again?

This is usually due to a loose connect. If you change the wires and make the connection tight , then the shower should be ok.
