Can I replace thermostat and slider by removing flow control

I have a Grohe Avensys 34224000 concealed shower valve. It was working OK one day, then next morning I can only get cold water from shower. I think probably it is the thermostat / slider that needs to be replaced? Can I replace these parts from the front by removing the flow control, or do I have to take the whole valve out of the wall to access the screwed in valve seat at the back? Should I be thinking of replacing the flow control at the same time, to save draining the house down again (as there seem to be no stop taps in the service pipes)?

All parts of this shower are accessible only from the front. Flow control is part of the thermostatic cartridge.
