Two components 'stick together'

I have a shower which includes these components. But when I turn the knob (which turns the black Adjusting Nut of this assembly), it 'sticks to' the grey Stop Ring, which then turns and comes away from the main unit. Do you think that it's my fitting, or do you think that a new assembly would cure the problem?

I would really need to see the problem however my thought is that there is a override button on the handle that needs to be pressed to allow the handle to turn past the stop.

Is the knob fitted in the correct place and or has the stop / override mechanism jumped out of position.

If that doesnt help perhaps you can send us some photos of the way it is fitted at the moment.
