Manufacturer's warranty / cartridge replacement

Many thanks Doc for your response. Our shower was twice repaired under warranty but it has never been "right". Now, a few years later, it became increasing stiff, would not shut off completely so we may have overtightened it and broken something. The temp knob turns anti-clockwise to a stop but, when turned clockwise, keeps on turning and clicks every so often. We had to remove the entire unit and plug the pipes but have not fully dismantled it yet. Our water is not particulary hard in this area. We have followed other questions on the forum and are expecting you to confirm we need a new cartridge, so are prepared for that. One final question, please: what is the best way to clean limescale deposits from the exterior without damaging the antique gold finish? Thanks again...

These are the parts that usually wear when you get the on/off knob jumping.

However it is not certain to be them so you may be better  biting the bullet and going for the cartridge.

As I/we are in central Scotland, noted for its soft water,  other than what hard water  does to the “inside” of showers I have no experience, I guess you would be better to Google that one!
