Cartridhge / gear wheels

Hello I have a shower where gear for the mixer control doesn't seem to be turning. When turning the spindle the top gear turns which turns on the water but having marked the mixer control gear with a pencil although the plastic outside seems to move the chrome wheel stays still. Taking both gears off I notice the power cartridge has a small triangular clip behind the gear wheel which helps turns it. On the mixer cartridge this seems to be missing..should there be one there and if so can you buy these small clips?

There two cartridges one for the hot and one for the coldthere can be two reasons for the gears not turning one is that the gears havebecome worn  and don’t have enough gripto turn the on/off cartridges.

However the more common fault is that one of the cartridgeshas become tight and will not turn easily.

If you remove the centre spindle and use your fingers on thegears to turn the cartridges on and off you can often tell that one istightening up.

If you are replacing the flow cartridges then it is advisableto replace both
