Thermostatic Cartridge for Trevi Therm Mk2

Please find attached a photo of our shower which I think is a Trevi Therm Mk2 Exposed A3200. The shower was installed about 10 years ago but recently the water temperature has been unstable and can be changed with a very small adjustment to the temperature control knob. Does this mean that we need a new thermostatic cartidge and is the correct part number S960134NU? Can I fit this myself or should I get a plumber? Thanks for your comments.

The first thing to check is that the filters on the cartridge are clear.

When you have the cartridge out take a photo of it.

At 10 years ago the cartridges changed pre 98 see below

Post 98 below

The only difference is the way the control knobs were mounted.

In the old model there brass on the external section of the cartridge is a solid ring on the newer model this part is tapered.

Can I fit this myself whe short answer is yes it is fairly easy however read the advice below.

I am often asked “Is this a DIY job” to be honest I can’t answer that, because without knowing someone, it isn’t possible to assess their skills?

I should say that most jobs on showers although relatively easy (from my point of view) can be fiddly and an extra pair of hands, long thin fingers and the strength in your hands of an all in wrestler are a help!

The secret is, observing very carefully when things are taken to bits, their order and orientation, taking notes and/or photos as you go can also be a help.

When you are working with electricity and water so make sure it is switched off and turned off before you start.

If you think you can do the job but aren’t just that confident, it may help to buy the part and compare it to the faulty part, you will then be able to see where the screws, wires, nuts, or washers etc. go, if then you think it is to complicated, at least you will have the part when the plumber or electrician arrives.

We will always be here to offer help and advice if you run into a problem, however it is not the same as being on site where we can get the overall picture, if you are still not sure, now is the time to call in a professional.

Thanks for your reply but I am a little confused as the two links shown appear to be for the same cartridge. Bearing in mind that my shower (Trevi Therm Mk2 Exposed A3200) is ten years old, could you please confirm which cartridge is needed. Thanks.

You can tell which cartridge you need by looking at the front , one has a white section the other has a flat brass section.
