Meynell V6 knob will not come off
Yes they can be very difficult to remove.
First a few kettles of boiling water over it may expand it just enough to release it, if that fails then you can try a heat gun or a gas torch (take care not to damage the chrome) if that fails then the engineer is correct you need to get a hacksaw out and cut the head off!
After that it is really just a case of replacing the head and the head set if it also gets damaged during the removal
