mira 722

A customer of mine is having problems with his Mira 722. Says all he is getting out of the shower is hot water and it will not adjust to a temperature suitable for showering.

Please could you say what the possible problem is.

The sleeve that turns round the pillar (18) is probably sticking

This needs to be able to move freely  (it opens and closes the hot and cold ports)

A strip down clean lube and fitting a service kit can solve most problems with this valve.

When you strip down the thermostat may look in pretty poor condition however handled gently it more than likely will work.

It is possible to buy a complete cartridge but the price will frighten you!

And if the boiler has been changed to a combi you will need this

Well by 89 days it must be fixed but for other readers...

Either the control lever is failing to move the shaft that controls the thermostat - plastic spline has stripped and/or innards have seized.

Not a difficult repair job if you do things step by step - make a note of where things go.

Descale all components even if they look ok - they won't be. Get them close to as good as new as you can. Don't use abrasives like wetndry paper it causes long term problems although will be a temporary fix.

Do replace the rubber seals and lube. You can buy the kit although if your'e a DIY buff you will source or have the o rings for pennies not the incredible £14 for the kit.

If the black plastic spline in the control assembly (unscrew 2 screws to disassemble when you've slid it off the shower's control spline) is partly stripped you can rotate it so a good area does the work.

Great showers, mine is over 20 years old but if not used regularly and every now and again always seizes on hot!

As you can tell I'm not a plumber but have serviced this unit over a 12 year period.
