Problems fitting Mira 723 service kit

I have just started to dismantle the control valve following your instructional video. However, on removing the flow valve unit I have discovered a splined cog set before the split washer that holds the temperature control unit in place (see photo). This fits into a splined recess in the back of the flow valve unit but is not featured in your video. It is tight on the brass shaft of the cartridge and I am unsure what is required to remove it. Your help would be much appreciated.

Hi Geoff,

This should just pull off with your hand. If not remove the circlip for the temp lever (like in the video) and that should help pull it forward.

Many thanks for your swift response. The nylon cog refuses to move so I will follow your advice and remove the circling to see if I can get a better leverage on the cog. I note that you had a similar query some years ago and you advised pouring boiling water over the cog before attempting to remove it. I am happy to try this if you feel that the other plastic components, chiefly the temperature control knob are capable of withstanding such temperatures.
Thanks again,
Geoff

Success! Removing the circling allowed room to pull the cog off with a pair of pincers. Thanks

Great news Geoff. Glad you managed ut without the boiling water. Never to sure with plastic and if it can withstand such temperatures.
