Mira 8.How is the rubber ring in the neck replaced

I have just purchased a complete insert for my old Mira 8 shower control. The only thing I cant figure out is how to replace the small fat "O" ring that goes inside the neck of the front plate section, after part 17 on the Mira 8 assembly diagram. Indeed how do you get the old ring out. This rubber ring is encased in the neck and appears to be held there with a small circular brass ring. I can’t remove the brass ring; it is locked solid, so how is this rubber ring replaced please.

You need a crochet hook or similar to remove this item.
