Intermittant stop/start behavior

While it is working normally, turning the flow knob has no effect on the water flow rate (which seems to be continually on maximum boost), although a change in the note of the pump can be heard above the constant level drone of the pump motor when the knob is turned.. Then occasionally the flow rate will stop and start and the pump noise will also stop and start and become "jerky". The shower has to be aborted but next day everything works OK again. Would this be the potentiometer playing up occasionally, as surely, if it was the solenoid valve the water would not flow at all. I would be grateful for your advice. As everything works fine normally for quite a while, presumably it would not be the pump. Although 4 years old, the shower, which is in a guest en suite, has only been used about 10 times a year.

The first thing I would do is check the inlet filters, alsocheck that the hose hasn't collapsed internally, and I know the answer but.....Have you checked that the shower head is clean and clear.
The other possibility is a faulty solenoid valve however it is unlikely on a unit that is relatively new.
