Low water flow after 3 weeks of no use, then sudddenly OK

Shower is installed in 2nd home and frequently not used for 3 or 4 weeks. Sometimes when turned on the motor runs, with a slight squealing noise, but just a dribble comes from the shower head. Turning the power and temperature knobs has no effect but motor does respond, then suddenly full flow starts suggesting some valve has become unstuck. It is then OK until next time it has been unused for a while. What could cause this?

First check the filters.

Then the other possibility's are that the flow valve is sticking or a partial airlock is forming when you are away.

I checked and cleaned the filters. Not sure there would be airlocks as the system has worked perfectly for several years. Is it possible the waterwheel on the pump is slipping, it squeals on startup? What is the flow valve, is this the solenoid? Thanks for your help.

Flow valve / solenoid valve standard bit of text that covers many showers.in your case It could be the solenoid that is sticking and not opening fully, it also could be you have a collapsed hose, looks OK on the outside but collapsed in the inside and opens up when the pressure of the motor builds up, the motor squealing is probably the shaft seal between the pump and the motor drying out.
