Temperature adjustment

Have had an excel for some years.

Recently started to drift in temp colder after a few minutes so, given the age/usage, replaced the cartridge.

However cannot get anything above luke warm water out of the new cartridge.

Checked:

- hot/cold supply correct

- temp adjustment made by removing the temperature hub and turning fully anticlockwise

- replaced the original cartridge and get water too hot to touch, put the new one back in and luke warm

- the 'hot inlet' side of the body is very hot, so hot water getting there, just not to the outlet

Have had to put the old one back in to get a decent shower until ~3-4minutes when it starts getting cooler

What am I doing wrong - have installed a couple of these over the years with no issues but can't get this cartridge to give hot water

Thanks for your help

It sounds as if you have a problem with the cold supply to the shower or a cycling boiler with the old cartridge.
The new cartridge problem give the adjustment you made is more of a mystery.

Check the head and hose are clear then try the test below.

Remove the cartridge.

When it isout give the pipe work a flush out.

This willtake two!

If your valve is recessed pack an old poly bag round the valve to divert the water into your Bath / shower tray then turnthe hot and cold valves on one at a time and allow the water to flush through for about 15>20seconds.

The personwho is helping you should watch that the water is not going anywherethat is going to do any damage. Also they should watchthat the amount of water coming from the hot and cold they should be roughly thesame.

If after fitting the new cartridge the  problem remains then this cartridge is faulty and should be returned.
