water temperature

when the water mixer dial is in the 12 o'clock position the water pressure is excellent, but the water is cold. to get the water warm enough to take a shower the mixer dial has to be turned all the way to the left to the 10 o'clock position, but there the water pressure is too low and the shower stream is very limp coming out of the shower head. would a new cartridge solve this problem, or could there be another reason fo this imbalance in the mixing of the hot and cold water? thanks.

There may be a blocked filter somewhere. You do not say if the system is a gravity one or off of a pump etc.
Have you checked the hose and head are clear?

thank you. i've tried to remove the temperature knob (dial) on the front of the shower to access the cartridge behind. it will not come off. is there a special technique? where on the clock face is the knob latching on to the surrounding outer ring? do i push the knob down, or up, or.....? would any particular type of tool help to remove it? thanks.

With the levers pointing downward you should be able to pull the temperature handle off of the flow handle.
