The flow regulators usually go in the inlet elbows or the outlet to the hose.

Bryant homes built my house and scores of others that surround me. My previous house had a combi boiler which didn't go via a cylinder, but the system in this house apparently uses a condensing boiler? and does have a large cylinder. I can only assume that all the homes including mine had the cartridges set up correctly, but I am not 100% sure of course.
It sounds easy enough to pop a regulator to the hose outlet, but as far as fitting to the inlet elbows is concerned, where would be in relation to the schematic diagram posted on your website please (www.showerdoc.com/mira-select-post-2001-shower-spares)?
