Mira sport 10.8kw

Hi we have the above electric shower which cut out all of a sudden mid flow. The standby light remains illuminated but the shower will not turn on. Looking on the top the label reads 23/02. Is this the week and year of manufacture? Any idea what the problem is and if so can I fix it if you can supply the parts? Many thanks.

Yes 23/02. is this the week and year of manufacture.

It may be your solenoid valve, you can check it if you have a multi meter, you should have a reading of at least k3.5 ohms, across the two terminals any less and you need a new valve. (Check the valve in the failed state.) (When it has stopped working!)

If there is power getting to the solenoid and it is not operating then there is a good chance that you have a faulty solenoid.

The video is intended as a guide and does not cover every shower.

If you don’t have a multimeter we sell them with a guide on how to use them for checking and testing the various parts of your shower.

Apart from helping to fix your shower, they are really useful for checking you have a power supply to appliances, for checking fuses and letting you know much power you have left in batteries

(So you will know if they are good or not) and lots of other jobs, in short they are well worth a few pounds

Hi Barrie

Thank you very much for your prompt response and for providing the youtube link, most helpful.

I have opened up the Mira Sport to identify the solenoid which was quite hidden - found by using your exploded parts diagram. Unfortunately the second electrical feed is simply unaccessible to test as it is covered by the switch housing which in turn is connected to the valve.

I therefore have the dilemma of taking the whole valve assembly apart to test the solenoid or simply just order a new solenoid from you. I appreciate your advice is given on a limited basis but in your experience for the shower to stop working mid flow is the solenoid the most likely cause? If so then i am happy to order a new solenoid from you if this is a high probability of being the culprit. I understand from your YouTube video that you recommend the valve being changed too if it needs to be removed, however this is quite an expensive part for a shower that is 13 years old, so i am not sure that i wish to invest that much in it. However the £16 or so for the solenoid is an acceptable risk i would take for it to be that part.

If you could give me your thoughts on the solenoid probability it would be most helpful, If the water needs turning off to remove the valve then I will have to order the solenoid at risk as i do not want to be removing the valve to test the solenoid only have to replace it to maintain the house water supply (as there is only one stop cock) whilst i wait for the part to be delivered.

Thanks again for your advice.

Regards

Jon

The solenoid is easily accessible from below in order to test it. In a lot of cases this is the common fault, but as stated we recommend you replace the whole flow valve to negate future problems in this area.
