Constant buzzing

Hi, My shower has recenrlt been removed from the wall in order to retile. When the shower has been reconnected it is making a constant buzzing noise. Also some residual water after the shower has been turned off. It makes the noise even when the shower isn't in use, only stops when turned off by the isolater power cord. Seems to function correct other than the noise and slight residual water after use. Any ideas ?

You say Buzzing, could it be ketteling? The noise that a kettle makes as it comes to the boil, if so then it is likley to be one of the micro switches is stuck in the on position and this is keeping one of the elements energised all the time causing the water inside the heating tank to heat all the time.

You need to trace the faulty micro switch or perhaps something has become dislodge when moving the shower and causing it not to switch off.

Hi George,

Many thanks for your response.

I can hear a slight kettle noise which seems to be overpowered by the buzzing.

It's strange because changing the temperature or the pressure from the shower head does alter the buzzing. I also noticed that the airboost function isn't working. Could it be that this is constantly on which is causing the buzzing and pressure issues?

I watched the video you have mentioned but cannot see the microswitches under the cover, sorry I have never really played around with the showers before. It's getting to the point where I am tempted to buy a new one.

Any other advice or final pointers before I do?

Thanks allot for your time.

It may be your solenoid valve, you can check it if you have a multi meter, you should have a reading of at least k3.5 ohms, across the two terminals any less and you need a new valve. (Check the valve in the failed state.) (When it has stopped working!)

If there is power getting to the solenoid and it is not operating then there is a good chance that you have a faulty solenoid.

The video is intended as a guide and does not cover every shower.

If you don’t have a multimeter we sell them with a guide on how to use them for checking and testing the various parts of your shower.

Apart from helping to fix your shower, they are really useful for checking you have a power supply to appliances, for checking fuses and letting you know much power you have left in batteries

(So you will know if they are good or not) and lots of other jobs, in short they are well worth a few pounds

Hi Barrie,

Thanks for the extra information, I will head down to a DIY shop and pick one up as I am desperate to get it resolved.

After another look it sounds like the majority of the noise is coming from a motor towards where you enter the shower hose. Also after the shower has been turned off I can feel air coming out of the shower head.

Would you still expect this to be the solenoid valve?

Thanks,

Jack

I do not think that a diy shop will have such an item. And you should not have air coming out of the shower head.
