Copper rust on top of heater tank

Hi,

There's copper rust forming on top of the heater tank of our Mira Sport 7.5W shower. This rust seems to get into (or cause the formation of further rust in) the thermal switch and damages it.

I called Mira and they suggested putting a water softener in the line.

Anything else I could do to prevent this Cu rust forming on the heater tank?

Thanks for your help

I would first check that you do not have a leak through the screw holes on the top as the "rust" cannot come from the copper. You should check that the micro switches are not sticking on as this is a cause of tco failure.
